We had such a relaxing holiday in France visiting my dad. Relaxed in the sense of doing lots of other things besides working. We spend a week swimming in the pool, we ate tons of good food, drunk delicious wine, we also went hiking in the mountains and visited an “Adventure Forest” where you could challenge yourself with a climbing experience.
When I went through my holiday photos, I noticed that there were a lot fewer than normally. This has to be because I’ve been using Snapchat quite a lot. Making little “stories” and going through “memories” afterwards is a great way to relive your holiday. But it’s a lot different than having the actual photos.
So the photos in this post has a few “snaps” too.
Let’s take a look:

HIKING IN THE ESTEREL MOUNTAINS
Søren and I love to go hiking and this year, we brought the kids too.
Silas gets carsick very easily so instead of going hiking in the Verdon Gorge where we normally go, we tried out the Esterel mountains this year since they were somewhat easier to reach by car.
We had found a hike that was 11,5 K long but because it was so poorly marked, we ended up getting lost and walking around 16 K. Adding another 4-5K may not sound of much but when you’re in the middle of the mountains, the sun is burning, you haven’t eaten since breakfast and you’re running out of water, it can seem like a big deal.
Søren and I even got a bit worried in the end. We just COULD NOT find the path that was supposed to take us over that last mountain and back to our car and we kept walking back and forth and missing it again and again. Well, long story short: in the end we found this incredibly poorly marked path, hiked over the mountain and got back to the car. Tired, dirty, thirsty and hungry.
But the hike was so beautiful. Some of it was along the Mediterranean with the most beautiful panoramic views. So blue and so pretty.
Sorry for the Danish caption. This says: “We’re lost. have been hiking for 4 hours now…”
The kids were so cool. They (well, really only one of them) had a few crisis but managed to snap back into good spirit. It was a tough hike, even for me, and I was really proud!

THE ADVENTURE FOREST – FLAY’FOREST
One day we visited the newly opened Adventure Forest in Flayosc. It was only a short drive from where my dad lives and it was a great experience.
This time only the kids did some climbing but I’ll gather all my courage and may join them next time.
They had a total of four climbing tracks. Two for the kids (one for +6 and one for +10), a family track (kids + 10 but the man thought my kids looked to young for that one) and a “sportif” for the really cool people. I might go for the family one next time. Just need to get over my anxiety about heights. Yuk!
It was a brilliant introduction to climbing for the kids. They learned to handle their own equipment while being fairly close to the ground. And they loved it! We’re definitely going back next time.
MORNING SWIM AND LATE NIGHT DIP
A new thing we did this time was the kids and I went for a morning swim every morning. We woke up, put on our swim wear and jumped in the pool. The kids loved it. After that we went and cooked breakfast and really, it’s just a great start to the day.
Another thing we tried this year was late night dipping. On our last night, we let the kids stay up till 10 and jumped in the pool that was lit up after dinner. I think this was the most memorable thing for the kids of all the things we did all week and I’m sure they’re going to try to make it some kind of tradition.
We also went grocery shopping because, as you know, this is my kind of fun (yes, I am serious!). I love grocery shopping in south of France. And I’m so jealous of both the quality of the food, the veggies, the organic selection and the prices. Denmark is so pricey you wouldn’t believe it.
