Our New Year’s Eve starts with a glass of bubbly at 6PM sharp when the Queen gives her annual speech. To prevent the guests (and the hostess) to get too tipsy from drinking alcohol on an empty stomach, we always serve a small snack as well.
We usually start with some bread, like the the bread with sea salt and oregano I posted yesterday and we have that with homemade olive tapenade. And then I always make various snack nuts. My tamari roasted almonds are almost legendary and I hardly dare having our friends over without making those.
The nuts often get a revival after midnight when people start drinking cocktails. And if we’re lucky, there are even some leftovers for the next day when we need all the help we can get to reestablish our salt balance.
