Yesterday, we had the whole family over to celebrate Silas’ and Vega’s 10th birthday. We had such a nice day and the kids were happy and excited. Vega helped me out in the kitchen. I sense that she has a growing interest in cooking and I really need to take advantage of that and have her cooking with me some more. Silas just wants to play football and eat food so I guess he’s just your average 10 year old boy.
We made so many delicious treats for the birthday table yesterday. Vega loves chocolate so I made a raw chocolate tart for her that was so rich and intense that a small slice was enough to satisfy any chocolate craving. Silas wanted an apple pie and in the last minute, he also asked if I could make cookies. I’m not the most experienced cookie maker so I experimented with some steel cut oats. They’re gluten free but not low carb. The cookies came out crispy and really tasty.
Here’s what we served for the party:
- Raw chocolate tart
- Apple pie – 100% natural without gluten, grains or added sugar/sweetener
- Oatmeal cookies – gluten free and refined sugar free
- Gluten free bread rolls
- Chia seed crackers
- Regular bread rolls
- Berry jam – sugar free
- Two cheeses
- Liquorice almonds
Apart from the regular bread rolls, all recipes were gluten free and made without added refined sugar. Not all recipes were low carb, though. Please let me know which recipes you’d like to see featured on this blog.
Raw chocolate tart to die for…
Gluten free bread rolls, oatmeal chocolate chip cookies and the apple tart – grain free and without any added sugar or sweetener (natural sweetness from the apples)
Crispy oatmeal chocolate chip cookies – gluten free and almost refined sugar free. I used a dark chocolate 70% that contained some sugar.
Apple pie and chocolate tart.
I’m so tired after such a busy weekend. My introvert self enjoys the company of others but it also exhausts me. I’m very happy to work in a quiet house today. Imagine if I had had to go into a busy office for work. No wonder that kind of work made me sick and miserable.
