Healthy treats for Halloween – trick-or-treat

October 31, 2015 af Jane Faerber Leave a Comment

Tonight is Halloween. Not a holiday I’m especially fond of but I’m sure that goes without saying. Halloween doesn’t have any deep roots in Danish culture but is a fairly new thing around here. I don’t let my kids go out trick-or-treating and they accept that without discussion. It’s just how it is.

Instead we made healthy treats for the kids that will come ringing our doorbell tonight. They’re healthier treats, obviously.

How do kids react to getting healthier treats when they expect a load of sugar? My experience is that they actually like the healthier treats and that they found them equally interesting. And if they don’t, they are welcome to not ring our doorbell next year.  Problem solved!

We made little bags with the delicious salted almonds and some cacao-cinnamon nuts mixed with a bit of raisins. We use the leftovers for our Saturday night treat. We’ll be watching the Voice Junior finals! My kids have been looking forward to that all week!

CACAO-CINNAMON NUTS WITH RAISINS

  • 250g mixed nuts (almonds, hazelnuts, cashews)
  • 50g raisins
  • 1 smal tablespoon of cacao powder
  • 2 tsp of cinnamon

DIRECTIONS

Put all ingredients in a freezer bag and shake well so the cacao powder and cinnamon are well mixed with the nuts and raisins. Pour the mixture into a bowl and make little bags out of foil or whatever you have at hand. That’s it, really!.

Happy Halloween!
